3-D Redesigned Safety Glasses
Towards the end of last year Mr. Ramos, another tech teacher at SBRHS asked if he could have something 3-D scanned and printed for the United States Super STEM Competition coming in 2017. This object was safety glasses with redesigned frames made by a fellow student. We tired to scan them in but it didn't work because the frames were too small, so my first project of the year in Computer Drafting and Design was to use 3DS Max and create the redesigned frames.
This is an image of my first attempt at recreating the original frames that were made by the student. We 3-D printed these and they fit but I went through and perfected the curves and also added a hinge. Shaping the boxes to form the arcs created imperfections that created trouble while printing the entire arm of the glasses. But this was perfected when I restarted from scratch to make sure these problems didn't happen.

This is a rendering of the newly designed frames that have no imperfections which will be the final design. Over the first two months of school I have worked on this project between Mr. Kalif and Mr. Ramos's class trying to get ready for the STEM contest in the spring. In my opinion the frames came out as good as they could considering the resources we have at the school. |
